Professor Andreas Baumbach is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Bristol Heart Institute and honorary Professor of Interventional Cardiology at the University of Bristol. He is also a Council member of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS) and chair the Training and Education Committee since 2011. He is a member of the board of the European Association of Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI) and was elected as Secretary of EAPCI in 2014. He is a board and programme committee member of EuroPCR, the largest course in interventional cardiology since 2008.
His prior hospital and medical appointments were the at the University of Tübingen in Germany. He went to Medical School in Tübingen and graduated in 1989, then trained in the Department of Cardiology from 1989 to 1998 and completed training for the specialty of Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Intensive Care Medicine. He became Assistant Professor of Medicine in 1998 and was awarded with title of Professor of Medicine (apl) from the University of Tübingen in 2008.
In the year 2000 Prof. Baumbach joined the team in the department of Cardiology at the University of Bristol, UK. He was the Director of the Catheterisation laboratories from 2002-2008 and the Clinical Lead of the department from 2005-2008. Since 2008 he is the head of clinical research in the Department of Cardiology of the new Bristol Heart Institute. Prof. Baumbach is involved in clinical research into acute coronary syndromes and the evaluation of new technologies in Interventional Cardiology.
