Zachary L. Bercu, MD RPVI, is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Interventional Radiology and Image Guided Medicine.
He is Clinical Site Director for Interventional Radiology at Emory University Hospital Medicine and serves as Assistant Program Director for the Interventional Radiology Residency and Fellowship Program at Emory.
He serves on the Steering Committee for the Georgia Center for Medical Robotics and has been awarded a Coulter Translational Institute grant for clinical development and implementation of a robotic steerable guidewire together with the inventor of the robotic guidewire, Jaydev Desai, Ph.D.
Dr. Bercu serves as a mentor for grant recipient Alex Dabrowiecki, MD, who is developing a medical innovation track for residents in the Department of Radiology, and has worked with a Radiology Leadership Academy team to create a “culture of innovative thinking” and “intrapreneurship” in the Department of Radiology.
Together with colleagues Janice Newsome, MD, Jonathan Martin, MD, and Nima Kokabi, MD, Dr. Bercu has mentored teams including 10 Senior Capstone Design projects in Biomedical Engineering at Emory University/Georgia Institute of Technology, 1 Senior Capstone Design project in Industrial Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), and 3 healthcare computer science and software engineering teams, all with ideas from the endovascular and interventional radiology space.
He is involved in the development of an Innovation Hackathon with the Resident and Fellow Section of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR).
