Henkes Hans

Hans Henkes was born in 1959 in Zweibrücken in southwest Germany. He finished Gymnasium there in 1977, and studied Medicine and Psychology from 1977-1985 in West-Berlin.

A residency for one year in Neurophysiology was followed by four years in General Radiology under Professor Felix, both in Berlin, with board certification for Radiology in 1991. Two years residency in Diagnostic Neuroradiology under Professor Piepgras (University Homburg/Saar) were finished by board certification for Neuroradiology in 1992. From 1992 to 2006 he received extensive neurointerventional training and worked at the Alfried Krupp Hospital (Essen) under Professor Kühne, since 2000 as his vice-director. After dissertation in 1987 at the Free University Berlin, Professor Henkes received the venia legendi for Neuroradiology in 1999 through the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Since 2006 he is an extraordinary Professor of this Medical Faculty. From 2004 to 2006 in addition to his position in Essen he served as a Medical Director of the Robert-Janker Clinic in Bonn. Since 2007 he is the Medical Director of the Neuroradiological Clinic at the Klinikum Stuttgart, Germany. In 2013 he was rewarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Scientific Academy of Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine.

Professor Henkes is co-founder and shareholder of medical device companies, including Dendron, phenox and Femtos. He is the co-inventor of Solitaire and several other neurointerventional devices.
