Professor Basil S. Lewis is Director of the Cardiovascular Clinical Research Institute at the Lady Davis Carmel Medical Center in Haifa, Israel, and a Professor of Medicine at the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport School of Medicine of the Technion, Haifa. Professor Lewis is a graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa (MB, BCh; D Med Sci) and undertook postgraduate training in Los Angeles, California. He was a tenured Professor of Medicine at UCLA. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London, the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association and the European Society of Cardiology. Professor Lewis is a Past-President of the Israel Heart Society and Governor of the ACC chapter in Israel. He is presently Chairman-Elect of the ESC Working Group for Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy. Professor Lewis has edited/co-edited nine books and is an author/co-author of more than 400 professional publications. He is an Associate Editor of the European Heart Journal: Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy and of Cardiology, serves on the editorial board of Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Coronary Artery Disease, Heart Failure Reviews and is a regular reviewer for a number of other leading journals.
